WHAT IS A CURSILLO ?

• Cursillo (pronounced kur-see-yo) is a Spanish word meaning "little course", or "short course", in christianity.
• Cursillo is a weekend experience of living in a Christian community.
• Cursillo is a chance to strengthen your relationship with Christ.
• Cursillo will help you evangelize all areas of your environment such as your family, school, church, and place of business.
• Cursillo is an opportunity to introduce you to a very diverse, national, and international support group of brothers and sisters in Christ.
• The goal of Cursillo is to have Christ be the prime influence in your life and in society.
• Cursillo is simply a method through which one's spirituality may be developed, lived, and shared in any area of human life.

WHAT HAPPENS AT A CURSILLO ?

The Cursillo weekend begins on a Thursday evening and ends Sunday night. During these three days those attending live and work together, listening to talks given by priests and laity. They also share the Eucharist and pray together. The title of the talks indicate their content: Ideals, Grace, Laity, Faith, Holiness, Formation, Sacraments, Evangelization, Obstacles to a life of Grace, Christian Leaders, Evangelization of the Environment, Christian Life, Christian Community, and Group Reunion. Each talk is followed by a discussion period.

WHO IS CURSILLO FOR ?

Cursillo is for:

• Roman Catholics,
• those in communion with the Catholic Church and receiving the sacraments, or able to do so,
• those who would like to have a closer experience with Christ,
• those who seek to be in a community that strives to live Christ's values. 

Persons of high school age should consider a SEARCH program.

WHAT DOES A CURSILLO WEEKEND COST ?

A donation of $125 is asked, but cost should not prevent anyone from attending. Let someone from Cursillo know if cost is a factor.

WHAT EFFECTS DOES A CURSILLO HAVE ON PARTICIPANTS ?

Many participants say they have come much closer to Christ on their Cursillo weekend. They find a new joy and excitement in their faith-walk as a Christian. They are eager to continue to live His values in all aspects of their lives and to help others to see and know Christ in their lives.

 The "after-the-weekend" activity of the Cursillo is known as the "Fourth Day." During this time, perseverance is important just as it is in any method of renewal.

 In the Cursillo Movement, the community spirit continues after the weekend through "ultreya" (see below) or reunions of the commmunity. These usually are held monthly as a means of growth in understanding and zeal within the Christian community.

 Frequent reunions of smaller groups of cursillistas (pronounced kur-see-es-tas) (those who have attended a Cursillo weekend) are encouraged to help one another in spiritual improvement.
