    NATIONAL AND LOCAL GRANTS AVAILABLE

    The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is seeking applicants for national and local grants for 2010.

    CCHD is one of the nation’s largest funding organizations for self-help, community-based programs initiated and led by those who are poor. The CCHD is soliciting applications from agencies, associations and/or projects that:

    1. Seek to affect the root causes of poverty in their community;
    2. Involve actual participation of the people served in the planning and decision-making of the sponsoring organization;
    3. Indicate potential for institutional change, empowerment of the people and community involved, and the development of local leadership; and
    4. Conform to the principles of Catholic Social teaching, namely that, in concert with other beliefs, a reverence for life and a respect for the dignity of the human person serves as the foundation of all social services.

    CCHD has a long tradition of providing funding for numerous programs in the state of Vermont that have served the poor and disenfranchised, including Our Lady of Guadalupe Home Foundation, St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Rutland and Burlington Dismas Houses.

    Those agencies, associations and/or projects that abide by the above criteria are encouraged to apply for funding through the contact information below:

    The 2010 National Grant Pre-application deadline is November 1, 2009. The website address is: www.usccb.org/cchd

    The 2010 Local Grant application deadline is January 31, 2010. The website address is: www.vermontcatholic.org

    Vermont Youth to “March for Life” in Washington, D.C.

    It looks like a busload of young (and not-so-young) Catholics will join in the 2009 March for Life in the Nation’s Capital on Thursday, January 22nd. Reservations are still being accepted, but there are only a few seats left. The Office of Catholic Formation promises the march-bound teens “A 24-hour Pilgrimage that will Rock Your World!”

    A special motor coach is scheduled to depart from the Tarrant Sports Center, St. Michael’s College, at 7:00PM Wednesday evening, January 21st. The Capital-bound bus will stop at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Fair Haven at 9:00PM to pick up more passengers…and they will return to Vermont very late on Thursday evening, January 22nd.

    Dorothy Barewicz, Director of the Office of Catholic Formation for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington says:

    “We are very pleased to offer our youth the opportunity to be part
    of this national event. It is our hope that their enthusiasm for life
    will be ignited and the fervor they bring back to their parish
    communities will inspire others to stand up for life. We are very
    proud of our youth who are beams of light and hope to our Catholic Church!”

    Media is welcome to wish the walkers farewell and a safe, exciting trip as the bus loads around 6:30PM at St. Mike’s. Bishop Salvatore R. Matano will be there to bless the “Pilgrims for Life” before departure. For further information, please contact:

Matano, Ninth Bishop of Burlington, will once again celebrate the annual “Rally for Life Mass” at St. Augustine Church in Montpelier on Saturday, January 17th, 2009 at 9:30AM. This special Mass to honor and protect the unborn traditionally precedes the “Rally for Life March” sponsored by the Vermont Right to Life Committee.
