Sisters of St. Joseph celebrating special anniversaries

Three Sisters of St. Joseph formerly based in Rutland and now part of the Springfield, Mass., congregation celebrated Special Anniversaries June 12 .

They are: Sister Margaret McDevitt, 60 years; Sister Margaret Henry Blicharz, 65 years; and Sister Marion Denise Scanlan, 70 years.

The celebration began with Mass at 1:30 in the Chapel at Mont Marie, Holyoke, celebrated by Msgr. Christopher D. Connelly, vicar general, followed by a reception in the dining room.

Born in Quincy, Mass., Sister Marion Denise Scanlan (Marion Ruth) entered the Rutland Congregation from Sacred Heart Parish, Weymouth, Mass. She was a teacher in the Diocese of Burlington, for 22 years including a year as principal of St. Peter Junior High School in Rutland. She later served as secretary to the president of the Congregation, managed the Congregation Gift Shop, and served on the Leadership Team. She is retired and living at Bethany Health Care Center in Framingham.

Sister Margaret Henry Blicharz was born in West Rutland and entered from St. Stanislaus Parish, West Rutland. She taught for 28 years at various schools in the Diocese of Burlington including St. Mary School, Fair Haven. She was a CCD teacher at St. Stanislaus School in West Rutland for a time. She is retired and living at St. Joseph Kervick Residence in Rutland.

A native of Rutland, Sister Margaret McDevitt (Matthew Joseph) entered from St. Peter Parish. She taught at Christ the King and St. Peter Schools, Rutland; Our Lady of the Seven Dolors School, Fair Haven; and Sacred Heart School, Bennington. She also served as religious education coordinator at Sacred Heart Parish, Bennington. Sister McDevitt lives in Rutland where she has served in pastoral ministry at Rutland Regional Medical Center since 1984.
