St. John Bosco 75th anniversary

STAMFORD—There will be a special 75th anniversary Mass to mark the founding of St. John Bosco Church July 30 at 11:45 a.m. with a picnic to follow. MSJ graduation

RUTLAND—Last month Mount St. Joseph Academy celebrated its 130th commencement exercises at St. Peter Church.
Principal Sarah Fortier welcome the crowd (estimated at 600) and spoke about the Class of 2017, pointing out the traits she will miss most with respect to each of the 28 graduates.
Students Isabelle Harvey and Thomas Tracy, recipients of the Veritas et Puritas (“Truth and Purity”) Award, addressed issues including faith and integrity, respectively. 
Salutatorian Gabriella Giancola and valedictorian Jenna Eaton both spoke about the importance of family.
Members of the Class of 1967 received golden diplomas. Their various accomplishments were noted, as well as their commitment to MSJ.
Burlington Bishop Christopher Coyne told the graduates their MSJ education was like a priceless painting that they should treasure and put to good use for all to see.
All members of the class will attend a 4-year college.

Scholarship winners

SPRINGFIELD-- The Knights of Columbus Council #2628 have announced the 2017 award recipients. The Lucien Courchesne ($500) award went to Kristin Burlew and Patrick Clancy. The Edmund Brown ($500) award went to Autumn Rose Prunier.

Senior barbecue

WILMINGTON—The Our Lady of Fatima Senior Luncheon Social will take place Wednesday, July 26, at noon. It will be a barbecue.


TOWNSHEND--The West River Mission Picnic will take place at the Townshend Dam, Davis Shelter, on Saturday, July 22, from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. Food will be served beginning at noon. Downtown prayer

SPRINGFIELD-- A group of parishioners from Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish is meeting on Saturday mornings downtown to say prayers again this year during the summer months. They have a table of informational literature, rosaries and miraculous medals to share with others. Participants also can use this time to honor their pledge to pray for those suffering from addiction. Parish picnic

LUDLOW—Church of the Annunciation in Ludlow and Holy Name of Mary Church in Proctorsville will have an annual parish picnic on Sunday, July 23, at Camp Plymouth State Park beginning at noon. The Knights of Columbus will provide the hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages; participants are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Also games are needed -- such as bocce, Frisbee, horseshoes etc. Swimming is available. This event is about building community.
