BURLINGTON—On April 15 there will be a discussion on “Social Impacts and Responses to Opiate Abuse in our Community” at Mater Christi School, 50 Mansfield Ave., from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Associates are sponsoring a panel that will seek to address the problem of opiate abuse in Vermont.
The panel will consist of following presenters: Christina Nolan, U.S. attorney for the State of Vermont; Mark Redmond, director of Spectrum Youth and Family Services; and Dr. Stephen Leffler, University of Vermont Chief Medical Officer. The facilitator will be Dr. John Reuwer, emergency medical physician and adjunct professor of peace and justice at St. Michael’s College in Colchester.
In addition to the panel presentations, a portion of “The Hungry Heart,” a prize-winning documentary film by Bess O’Brien, will be shown.
Donations will be accepted at the door to benefit the Howard Center.
