“I would like to express the closeness of the Pope and the Church to every man and woman around the world who is in prison. Jesus said: ‘I was in prison and you came to me’ (Mt 25:36).” -Pope Francis
“Behind the Walls” support
Dedicated volunteers provide spiritual support to Catholic and non-Catholic inmates in Vermont correctional facilities. Services provided include: Mass, Communion services and the Sacrament of Reconciliation; distribution of Bibles, rosaries and devotional reading materials; faith enrichment discussion sessions; sacramental preparation; and individual pastoral counseling when requested.
Support to newly released inmates
The reality for many newly released inmates is that they are re-introduced into society with no employment, no support and only a few dollars for food and shelter. Given these challenges, it is critical that newly released inmates receive some immediate financial assistance to help them have a chance at a new start. Assistance that Vermont Catholic Charities provides includes rent assistance, clothing vouchers and grocery cards.
