Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia has a new completion date, with major construction due to be finished in 2026.

With ground broken in 1882, the basilica’s construction was delayed several times due to damage by communist partisans during the Spanish Civil War, arson in 2011, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Upon completion of the main towers, Sagrada Familia will be the tallest Catholic church in the world, at over 560 feet in height. Consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010, the basilica has seating for 6,000 people and is larger than Westminster Cathedral and Notre-Dame de Paris.

While the structure will be completed next year, detail and sculpture work will continue for some time afterwards, with the final installations planned for 2032.
