On the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, June 11, the Diocese of Burlington will participate in the annual Global Rosary Relay at 2 p.m.

Burlington Bishop Christopher Coyne will lead the rosary, which will be livestreamed from St. Joseph Cathedral in Burlington.

Beginning at midnight on June 11, various locations from more than 100 countries will begin praying the rosary every half hour, passing it along to the next location until the entire world will be encircled in the rosary just before midnight of the next day.

The Diocese of Burlington will receive the relay from the St. Dominic Priory at Our Lady of the Rosary in Haverstock Hill, London, and say the Sorrowful Mysteries. The relay will then go to Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in Euclid, Ohio.

In 2002 Pope John Paul II announced the annual World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests to take place on the Feast of the Sacred Heart. The first global rosary relay was launched in 2009 and has been an annual event since. “This relay serves as a gift from the laity to our wonderful priests to show our love and appreciation,” said Valerie Parzyck of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis for the Diocese of Burlington.
