Ralph Owen St. Peter Jr., 86, of St. Albans died April 1 at home.

Born in Burlington on Feb. 1, 1937, he was the son of the late Ralph O. and Leotta (Hollis) St. Peter. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Burlington in 1955 and St. Michael’s College in Colchester in 1959. A star basketball and baseball player during those years, he was later inducted into the Cathedral/Rice Athletic Hall of Fame and college’s Athletic Hall of Fame as part of its 1958-59 basketball team.

On March 2, 1968, he married Carol Calcagni and together they had five children. He worked a majority of his career at General Electric.

He coached youth sports with a particular love for CYO basketball in the Burlington neighborhood where he grew up. A lifelong Boston sports fan, Ralph enjoyed watching all kinds of sports.

An active member of Holy Angels Parish in St. Albans, he served as an usher and hosted the coffee hour with friends.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Carol, and their children, Hollis (Heidi) St. Peter of Hinesburg, Travis St. Peter (JungIm Moon) of Essex, Father Dallas St. Peter of Burlington, Caroline (Donald) Lance and Christine (Clark) Briggs, all of Colorado Springs, as well as his grandchildren, Olivia, Jack and Theodore St. Peter, Luke and Dallas St. Peter, Sophia and Benjamin Briggs and Elizabeth and Timothy Lance and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was predeceased by his brother, Hollis, and sisters, Leah and Nona.

The family will receive family and friends on April 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated April 14 at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, 245 Lake St., St. Albans, with Father Dallas St. Peter as celebrant.

Private burial will take place at a later date.
