Christmas is a special time at St. Stanislaus Parish in West Rutland where a group of volunteers decorated the church for the 2019 Christmas season. The celebration of Christmas there included sharing the oplatek or Christmas wafer. Polish communities throughout the world participate in the custom of sharing the oplatek at the beginning of the Christmas festivities. At St. Stanislaus parishioners not only distribute it for family use, but on the fourth Sunday of Advent, they share the wafers with those who are present for the celebration of the liturgy.  All attendees and visitors are given the wafer and during the Sign of Peace, share greetings and best wishes for the holy season of Christmas. At the Mass of the Christmas Vigil, brother and sister Chloe and Colton Chmielewski (pictured) brought the statue of the Baby Jesus and His crib to the creche.
