Prayer: Our most powerful tool for a culture of life.
Through participation in the sacramental life of the Church, together we pursue a culture of life.
When it comes to building a culture of life, prayer may be considered the most powerful tool we have. Especially in a state like Vermont where abortion is widespread and assisted suicide is legal, movements like 40 Days for Life and Cenacles of Life offer tangible opportunities to pray and fast in solidarity with others who are committed to promoting the sanctity of human life.

Prayer at Abortion Clinics
Reaching out to pregnant women in crisis is a key component of pro-life ministry. As a supplement to the pastoral care programs of the Diocese and Vermont Catholic Charities, there also is a need to intercede through prayer for women and families who might be seeking an abortion as a solution to the problems of an untimely pregnancy. This prayer may happen in our churches, at home or at an abortion site. Any Catholic presence at an abortion site, organized as a Catholic event, should be one of prayer and reconciliation for the parents and unborn children and for the staff of the clinic.
The pamphlet, Guidelines for Prayer at Abortion Clinics, will help guide groups wishing to undertake this powerful ministry.
Worship
Periodically throughout the year, Catholic parishes dedicate specific Mass celebrations for pro-life intentions. At the diocesan level, there are two important times of the year when we gather to worship together by offering Masses for life, including:
Respect Life Sunday: On the first Sunday in October, Catholic parishes throughout the United States offer Mass intentions for the unborn and all those whose lives are vulnerable and need protection. It kicks off an entire month of activities aimed at raising awareness for pro-life events, issues and organizations.
