Service of Lessons and Carols

BENNINGTON--The parish choir of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church will present an annual Service of Lessons and Carols for Gaudete Sunday on Dec. 17 at 5 p.m. in the church at 238 West Main St. The service will include Old Testament Scripture, sacred choral masterpieces of the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods and the music of the church's pipe organ. Penance service

READSBORO—On Dec. 18 there will be a tri-parish penance service at St. Joachim Church from 6 to 7 p.m.

RESTORED WINDOW—Burlington Bishop Christopher Coyne gestures as he speaks to parishioners of St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls in October. He visited the parish to bless a newly restored window, the church’s largest stained glass window dating to 1855. It depicts the Gospel writers Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Annual bereavement Mass

BENNINGTON-- E.P. Mahar and Son Funeral Home will sponsor the annual Bereavement Mass on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. Following the Mass there will be a time of sharing and refreshments at the Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Parish Center.

St. Charles annual Cookie Walk

BELLOWS FALLS—The annual St. Charles Cookie Walk will take place on Dec. 16 at the Sacred Heart/St. Charles Social Center from 9 a.m. until the cookies are gone. To donate Christmas-style cookies, call the rectory at 463-3128.

Advent Penance Service

BENNINGTON-- On Sunday, Dec. 10, the annual deanery-wide Advent Penance Service will take place at 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church.

‘Fill the Jeep’

BRATTLEBORO--St. Michael School is partnering with Summit Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram to collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations in support of the food insecure in the community. The Project Feed the Thousands campaign began Nov. 6 and will conclude on Dec. 15. Each class is collecting food items to “Fill the Jeep.” There is a red bucket in each homeroom for the non-perishable food donations. Monetary donations may be dropped off in the administrative office. Food donations (by weight) and monetary donations (by amount) will be tracked for each homeroom. The homeroom with the most contributions will receive a trip to WOW frozen yogurt for an ice cream party. The SMS Chorus will represent St. Michael School at the Fill the Bus event at Hannaford’s on local radio stations on the afternoon of Dec. 15. St. Michael School has a long history of service and compassion. Project Feed the Thousands is a part of its legacy of kindness.

SPRINGFIELD—A dinner will be served on Christmas Day at Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish’s Nolin Murray Center from noon to 2 p.m. All are welcome.

Bible study

FAIR HAVEN—There will be a Bible study at the former St. Mary School beginning Jan. 9, at 6 p.m. The course is set up to enable discussion after every lecture.
