The newest church in the diocese, built in 2008 and dedicated by Bishop Matano, the parish community began as St. Donation and Rogation Parish, the only church in the United States with that name – Saints Donation and Rogation were two French brothers martyred in Nantes during the reign of Roman Emperor Maximian, around 288-290 AD. The original church was completed in 1866 and blessed by Vermont’s first Bishop, Louis DeGoesbriand. It was a mission of other nearby parishes that served the Catholic families of south-central Vermont until 1903 when the first resident pastor is named. A new, larger church was completed in 1906 and remained until it was decided that new church was to be constructed in 2000. Land was purchased and the new construction began in 2007 and completed in 2008. Members of the parish decided to rename the church Our Lady of the Angels Church.
Under the guidance of the current pastor, Fr. Scott Gratton, the church has become part of a 2 – church parish with Our Lady of the Valley in Bethel. Behind the altar is a reproduction of a painting by William Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) titled “The Virgin with Angels”, 1900 (oil on canvas).
