More than 200 children and teens expressed in word and image what the Eucharist means to them as they participated in a Eucharistic Revival contest sponsored by the Development and Communications Office of the Diocese of Burlington. Winners in each category have been selected from the 237 entries. Contest categories were writing and visual arts. Contestants could enter both categories and could submit original works such as poetry, prayer, song, video, photography, painting, sketching, sculpture, or collage.

Tenth-grader Miriam Lawson submitted the only written high school entry and is the winner in this category. She is part of the Catholic Schoolhouse and a member of St. Luke Parish in Fairfax. Each winner received a gift card from the Diocese of Burlington.

“The Eucharist is a very special gift that I always receive at daily Mass,” Ethan Quizon wrote. “The reason it is special to me is that I am going to the heavenly banquet where I get a taste of heaven.”

“For me the Eucharist is necessary; I can’t imagine life without it,” Luke Lawson wrote. “The Eucharist is a way for me to receive Jesus, it is a way for me to adore Jesus, it is a way for me to get to know Jesus.”
