On New Year’s Day 2023, Vermont Knights of Columbus Council #7669 began a Marian mission that has continued.

Grand Knight Paul de la Bruere brought back a tradition that he had set into action in his previous position as grand knight in 2003-2005: He dusted off the old picture album from that earlier time and brought the idea of restarting this mission to his council at which time a beautiful 30-inch statue of Our Lady of Fatima was purchased. That was the beginning of Mary’s journey into homes in Highgate and Swanton.

There is a sign-up sheet in the back of St. Louis and Nativity churches. Everyone is encouraged to take Our Lady into their homes and hearts for a week.

Father James Dodson, pastor, calls the family forward for a blessing at the end of Mass, and a photograph is taken of the family with the statue and Father Dodson.

The following week The Pilgrim Statue is set back up where it adorns the altar awaiting her new family. If anyone is unable to bring it home with them, de la Bruere will bring it to them and set it up; he will pick it up at the end of the week

Accompanying Our Lady’s statue are blessed rosaries, prayer books, a journal, a DVD of the story of Fatima as well as a movie of Mother Teresa for the families to enjoy.

In the journal, family members have written and shared their experiences during Our Lady’s visit. Many have commented on how they have felt a greater peace in their homes and how their families have gathered together to pray.

A member of the Knights of Columbus, District Deputy Mike Patnode, made a beautifully adorned wooden case to keep the statue of Our Lady safe in Her travels.

Many people have asked to bring the statue back to their homes a second time.
